The Nutcracker, a fairy-like ballet in The Hague
De Dutch Don’t Dance Division (DeDDDD),
a dance company based in The Hague, will bring in cooperation with Holland Dance Festival, a unique version of the classic ballet The Nutcracker, in the Grote Kerk, the beautiful main church in the centre of The Hague.
In this production many Hague-based groups, children and grown-ups, amateurs and professionals will work together in a positive way to create this “community art project”. The editions in 2006 and 2007 were a great success so De DDDD decided to turn this project into an annual tradition.
The concept originated in the USA, where the artistic leaders of DeDDDD, Thom Stuart and Rinus Sprong, personally experienced how children, amateur dancers, as well as professional dancers collaborated joyfully in an annual recurring Christmas production of the ballet.
The Nutcracker, including the enchanting music by Tchaikovsky, will be performed in the magical ambiance of the Grote Kerk in The Hague. The original story about Clara and her toy figures that come to life, is adapted to reflect the city of The Hague.
Over a 100 dancers; professionals, (international) students, amateurs, children and adults will participate in the twelve performances. Two young upcoming dancing stars from the American Ballet Theatre, New York will dance the famous “Pas de Deux”.
